Dhyanam
Sit in front of the Bahi-Khate or books that represent Goddess Saraswati and meditate on Her while chanting the prescribed Mantra.
या कुन्देन्दु-तुषार-हार-धवला या शुभ्र-वस्त्रावृता या वीणा-वरदण्ड-मण्डित-करा या श्वेत-पद्मासना । या ब्रह्माऽच्युत-शङ्कर-प्रभृतिर्देवैः सदा वन्दिता सा मां पातु सरस्वती भगवती निःशेषजाड्यापहा ॥

PADACHEDA

या कुन्द-इन्दु-तुषार-हार-धवला या शुभ्र-वस्त्र-आवृतायाः वीणा-वर-दण्ड-मण्डित-करा या श्वेत-पद्म-आसनायाः ब्रह्म-अच्युत-शङ्कर-प्रभृतिः देवैः सदा वन्दिता असा माम् । ॥

ENGLISH MEANING

The devotee meditates on Goddess Saraswati, the radiant Mother of Knowledge, pure and white like the moon, adorned with a garland of snow-white flowers and a veena in hand, seated on a lotus, worshipped by Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva — praying to Her to remove all ignorance and bless with wisdom.

TRANSLITERATION

yā kunda-indu-tuṣāra-hāra-dhavalā yā śubhra-vastra-āvṛtāyāḥ vīṇā-vara-daṇḍa-maṇḍita-karā yā śveta-padma-āsanāyāḥ brahma-acyuta-śaṅkara-prabhṛtiḥ devaiḥ sadā vanditā asā mām . ..

Upachar 2

Aavahanam
Invoke Goddess Saraswati in front of the Bahi-Khate or books by chanting the prescribed Mantra. Keep your hands in Avahan Mudra (invocation posture) while calling Her.
आगच्छ देवि देवेशि! तेजोमयि सरस्वति! क्रियमाणां मया पूजां गृहाण सुर-वन्दिते! ॥ श्रीसरस्वती-देवीम् आवाहयामि ॥

PADACHEDA

आगच्छ देवि देवेशि-तेजः-मयि सरस्वति-क्रियमाणाम् मया पूजाम् गृहाण सुर-वन्दितेश्री श्री-सरस्वती-देवीम् आवाहयामि! ! ! ॥ ॥

ENGLISH MEANING

The devotee humbly invokes Goddess Saraswati, the embodiment of brilliance and learning, requesting Her to descend and accept the worship offered with devotion and purity.

TRANSLITERATION

āgaccha devi deveśi-tejaḥ-mayi sarasvati-kriyamāṇām mayā pūjām gṛhāṇa sura-vanditeśrī śrī-sarasvatī-devīm āvāhayāmi! ! ! .. ..

Upachar 3

Pushpanjali-Asanam
After invoking Maa Saraswati, take five flowers in both palms (Anjali Mudra) and place them near the Bahi-Khate or books as an offering of a seat to the Goddess while chanting the prescribed Mantra.
नाना-रत्न-समायुक्तं कार्तस्वर-विभूषितम् । आसनं देवि देवेशि! प्रीत्यर्थं प्रतिगृह्यताम् ॥ ॥ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै आसनार्थे पञ्च-पुष्पाणि समर्पयामि ॥

PADACHEDA

नाना रत्न-समायुक्तम् कार्तस्वर-विभूषितम् आसनम् देवि देवेशि-प्रीति-अर्थम् प्रतिगृह्यताम् श्री-सरस्वती-देव्यै आसन-अर्थे पञ्च-पुष्पाणि समर्पयामि । ! ॥ ॥ ॥

ENGLISH MEANING

hrough offerings of water, sandal, flowers, incense, lamp, food, and devotion, the devotee expresses surrender and reverence to Goddess Saraswati, seeking Her grace for knowledge, eloquence, and divine enlightenment — Om Shri Saraswatyai Namah, Anena Poojanena Shri Saraswati Devi Priyatam, Namo Namah.

TRANSLITERATION

nānā ratna-samāyuktam kārtasvara-vibhūṣitam āsanam devi deveśi-prīti-artham pratigṛhyatām śrī-sarasvatī-devyai āsana-arthe pañca-puṣpāṇi samarpayāmi . ! .. .. ..

Upachar 4

Navopachara-Pujanam
Now perform the Puja of Maa Saraswati with sandal paste (Chandan), rice grains (Akshata), flowers (Pushpa), incense (Dhoop), lamp (Deep), and food offering (Naivedya) while chanting the prescribed Mantras.
ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः पादयोः पाद्यं समर्पयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः शिरसि अर्घ्यं समर्पयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः गन्धाक्षतान् समर्पयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः पुष्पं समर्पयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः धूपम् आघ्रापयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः दीपं दर्शयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः नैवेद्यं निवेदयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः आचमनीयं समर्पयामि । ॐ श्रीसरस्वती-देव्यै नमः ताम्बूलं समर्पयामि ।

ओम् श्री-सरस्वती-देव्यै नमः पादयोः पाद्यम् समर्पयामि ओम् श्री-सरस्वती-देव्यै नमः शिरसि अर्घ्यम् समर्पयामि ओम् श्री-सरस्वती-देव्यै नमः गन्ध-अक्षतान् समर्पयामि ओम् श्री-सरस्वती । । । । । । । । ।

ENGLISH MEANING

Each offering to Goddess Saraswati — from water and sandal to flowers, incense, lamp, food, and betel — represents purity, devotion, and the illumination of wisdom through heartfelt reverence.

TRANSLITERATION

om śrī-sarasvatī-devyai namaḥ pādayoḥ pādyam samarpayāmi om śrī-sarasvatī-devyai namaḥ śirasi arghyam samarpayāmi om śrī-sarasvatī-devyai namaḥ gandha-akṣatān samarpayāmi om śrī-sarasvatī . . . . . . . . .

Upachar 5

Pujana-Samarpanam
After completing the Puja, take sandal paste, rice grains, and flowers in your left hand and gently place them near the Bahi-Khate or books with your right hand while chanting the prescribed Mantra.
ॐ श्रीसरस्वत्यै नमः । अनेन पूजनेन श्रीसरस्वती देवी प्रीयताम् । नमो नमः ।

PADACHEDA

ओम् श्री-सरस्वत्यै नमः अनेन पूजनेन श्री-सरस्वती देवी प्रीयताम् नमः नमः । । ।

ENGLISH MEANING

With the prayer “Om Shri Saraswatyai Namah — Anena Poojanena Shri Saraswati Devi Priyatam, Namo Namah,” the devotee seeks Her blessings for knowledge, eloquence, and divine inspiration in all thoughts, words, and deeds.

TRANSLITERATION

om śrī-sarasvatyai namaḥ anena pūjanena śrī-sarasvatī devī prīyatām namaḥ namaḥ . . .
